  27. Confusion upon confusion!!  You can be connected at 24,000 V-whatever amd still
  28. only get TRANSFER rates (NOT CONNECT) much under your connect speed.  FYI I'm
  29. externally connected (usually 28,800) but my xfer rates can come down to 200
  30. bps rather than the preferred 30-35,000 bps.  How can I tell?  My modem log
  31. tells me the xfer rate, plus utility which monitors xfer rates (yes, with
  32. flashing lights!!) and whilst my CONNECT remains steady (unless DIS!!), my
  33. xfer rates vary tremendously.  I prefer external as I retain the ultimate
  34. sanction - switch the ?$%?$% off!!!!!
